Unless you're reading this blog from another state other than Pennsylvania, you MUST already know the Primary Election is today.
You've received those glossy push cards extolling the virtues of him and her.
You've received countless telephone calls practically begging for your vote.
You've been inundated with campaign advertisments via television, radio, and newspaper.
You've seen the yard signs dotting the landscape.
You can't say you forgot.
Pennsylvania's April 22nd date for the Primary actually places us in a rather primary role in the race for the White House in 2008, and the talking heads figure our state can make or break one Democratic candidate's campaign.
Personally, I'd love to see Pennsylvania garner a little more respect in the Presidential campaigns because our elections are held so far into the primary season that we often are overlooked and denied the status of a do or die state.
You should be excited!
Make yourselves proud.
Heck, make me proud!

AMEN Karen!
Democracy is a full participatory sport, and unless we all partake in the sport we have no reason to complain.
Yours in the Ideals of Democracy,

Anonymous 8:20 p.m., your choice of words, "stunning defeat", on Bob Tigro and his wife's loss yesterday was apparently designed to rankle, and I won't allow the post to stand without a response from me.
I haven't a clue as to who you are, but, what I am about to say I would say to your face.
You just caught me at a bad time, and in the wrong mood.
I believe, in your own small way, you are a part of what is wrong in our country today.
You are a part of what makes those power brokers who seek keep our country divided into red states and blue states clap their hands with glee.
I cannot change who and what you are or how you publically react to another's loss but I can tell you that your gloating makes me sick to my stomach.
Karen,
From your response it must have been a bad time and a wrong mood.
The choice of words “stunning defeat” was not intended to “rankle.” Defined, rankle:
–verb (used without object)
1. (of unpleasant feelings, experiences, etc.) to continue to cause keen irritation or bitter resentment within the mind; fester; be painful.
–verb (used with object)
2. to cause keen irritation or bitter resentment in: His colleague's harsh criticism rankled him for days.
My intended use of the word “stunning” coupled with “defeat” was, as the definition says; causing, capable of causing, or liable to cause astonishment, bewilderment, or a loss of consciousness or strength: a stunning blow.
Another definition; to shock; overwhelm: The world was stunned by the attempted assassination.
I did not use the word “stunning” in this context; of striking beauty or excellence: What a stunning dress you're wearing!

As I stated, Anonymous, bad time, wrong mood. My universe has only shifted slightly to the positive since last night.
Your argument could be made that I reacted negatively to your choice of verbiage perhaps even to the point that it was over-reacting due to the fact that the statement consisted of only two words.
However, your explanatory post today rather reinforces my initial reaction.
Were you even attempting to report a newsworthy point of fact, you may have chosen instead to report on all the committee races in the borough.
You did not.
Were you attempting to remain neutral there are at least hundreds of other descriptive adjectives, which, by your choice of words in writing this post in defense of your original, I'm certain you're casually familiar with.
My contention remains the same.
Either we are part of the problem on the polarization woes of our country or we are part of the solution.
I will grant you this.
Misconstruing the written word is easily enough done.
One cannot read intonations in voice, nor can they judge face and body language through this medium.
I'll give you a duly considered pass merited by your effort and attempt to explain your position to me.
Ok. I admit it. Linda and I were stunned.
Well he still has his sense of humor.
Truth, I had a giggle, too.
Tigro has a good spirit!
Bob was a good sport. It was nice to get to know him while working the polls that day. We have many similar goals for for the GOP. Sarah and my running had to do with our desires to see growth and strength in the GOP and was nothing personal against Bob. We hardly knew him before Election Day. Party unity and grassroots efforts in Chester County will be key come November. The last thing Sarah & I want is for divisiveness. If anyone wants to talk with me further about this I can be reached at brian@peppel.com . I can provide my phone number via email.
