PHOENIXVILLE — As a result of Tuesday's Primary Election, Jan Potts, Betsy Ruch, Josh Gould and Daniel J. Cushing will be vying for positions on the Phoenixville Area School Board.

With 216 of 224 precincts reported in around 11:45 p.m., Potts, Ruch, Gould and Cushing were the top four vote-getters out of seven candidates for the School Board.

Combining both Democratic and Republican votes, Potts had 1,140 total votes, with Ruch finishing second with 1,073 votes.

Coming in third place was Gould with 848 votes, and rounding out the top four was Cushing with 840 votes.

Placing fifth was Theresa Thornton Johnson with 786 votes, followed by Wendy Kelly with 673 votes and Donna Jackson with 655 votes. There were a total of 42 write-in votes as well.

When notified of his third place finish, Gould said he was hopeful on Tuesday.

"I feel good about this," said Gould. "I wasn't too sure of what the outcome would be. I've been to the forums, and wasn't sure how things would turn out. I was being hopeful.

"There is a lot of transition going on and I want to be a part of it. There are things I'd like to do to get the district in good hands financially. There is a lot of different things going on that I want to follow through on."

In November, it will be incumbent Leo Scoda (D) facing off against Louis J. Amici (R), as both ran unchallenged in the primary with a few write-in votes.

There will be four races for Borough Council seats, as in the North Ward, it'll be Richard M. Kirkner (D) and Bob Tigro (R), while in the Middle Ward, current Council President Henry Wagner (D) faces a challenge from Marc Reber (R).

Over in the East Ward, it'll be Erin McDevitt (D) and Dave Gautreau (R), and the West Ward will be Dana L. Dugan (D) and Joseph W. Schwartz (R).

In the race for Tax Collector, Nina Haslip (D) will go against incumbent Jennifer Killeen (R).

thanks for posting these results, i was afraid that tigro had faded off into the woodwork - i for one was sorry to see that had not run for mayor and that 8% chose to write in a different candidate, gues that means we are stuck with coach again - at least it is a known commode - i know tigro will fight against this bs that the current council is dishing out - best of luck to him - hopfully he will get some support.

When write-ins get almost 10% of the vote (Republican/Mayor) I think the write-ins should be made public. Might be a better choice in the long run.
