Did you know? Sean McDermott - Philadelphia Eagles Defensive Coordinator

Phoenixville area Eagles football fans have another reason to proudly root for the Philadelphia team.

Sean McDermott, the new Eagles defensive coordinator lives in Phoenixville!

Shortly after the announcement, the new coach returned my call and spent a few minutes discussing his new career.

"Coach Jim Johnson has left big shoes to fill.", he said. "We will all miss him."

Accepting my congratulations, he continued, "I wanted to acknowledge the community I live in and thank everyone for the support."

McDermott, joined the Eagles organization in 1998.

After approximately a year as a scouting administrative coordinator, Sean was tapped to serve as an assistant to head coach Andy Reid.

In 2001, he bagan coaching under defensive coordinator Jim Johnson, as an assistant secondary coach in 2003, and coached the Eagles safeties from 2004 to 2006.

McDermott served as the linebackers coach and secondary coach in 2007-2008.

As Jim Johnson received cancer treatments, he was named interim defensive coordinator in May 2009.

During a press conference held by the Eagles Andy Reid on July 25, 2009, Reid officially announed Sean McDermott as the permanent defensive coordinator.

When asked what was the most important advice he's received from Coach Jim Johnson, McDermott replied, "Blitz, and blitz again!"

2009 should prove to be a very exciting season for the Eagles.

Sean McDermot was born on March 21, 1974, and is married to his wife, Jamie, and resides in Phoenixville with their daughter, Madeline.

Hopefully he doesn't have any dogs that Mike Vick can get his hands on.
