Planning Commission to welcome new member - Marcia Eldred

Delaware County's former Haverford Township Planning Board member Marcia Eldred was appointed to fill the seat of Mike Hott on Phoenixville's Planning Commission.

Buckwalter, Handwerk, Senley, Speck, and Wagner voted to seat Eldred in a 5-3 vote last night.

My congratulations and best wishes to Ms. Eldred on her new position in the borough, and I look foward to meeting the P.C.'s newest member.

Council names Eldred planner
From the Phoenix:

A WESTRIDGE RESIDENT SINCE SEPTEMBER 2007, SHE WAS ON HAVERFORD PLANNERS FOR 8 YEARS

By G.E. Lawrence, Special to The Phoenix

PHOENIXVILLE — Borough Council Tuesday evening selected Marcia Eldred to fill the open seat on the Borough Planning Commission.

Eldred, a Westridge resident since September 2007, was a member of the Haverford Township Planning Commission from 1994 to 2002, and its secretary for four of those years. She was a member of former Congressman Curt Weldon’s Health Advisory Committee and a gubernatorial appointee to the Pennsylvania State Health Care Policy Board.

“Thank you for trusting me,” Eldred said to Council members following the vote, “because I know that you do not know me well.”

In Council interviews in March, Eldred had called herself “the face that nobody knew,” who came to consider the Commission appointment because she “fell in love with [the borough] when I first saw it,” and because she was “a person who wants to be involved in the community. It matters what happens here.” She added then that she would not be bringing to the Commission “any [prior] agendas.”

The vote was 5-3 to appoint Eldred, with David Gill (D-West), Carlos Ciruelos (D-East) and Richard Mark Kirkner (D-North) casting “nay” votes.

Eldred was selected from a field of candidates that also included paralegal Michelle Beaver, refinery manager William McCarron, and former Phoenixville Borough Council President and planning commission member John Messina.

She fills the commission seat formerly held by Michael Hott.

I am very pleased with Council's choice at this time; while difficult, I believe we made the right decision as a body.

It is my hope that both Michelle Beaver and Bill McCarron remain interested in pursuing future open seats on the Planning Commission.

I will go on record here indicating that both of them will receive Yes votes from me based on their public interviews and interest.
