Special request - Information on Holy Ghost Church property, also known as Reeves family mansion or Phoenix Park

Quite a bit of interest has been generated recently regarding the Holy Ghost Church property, formerly known as Phoenix Park.

The once magnificient mansion, demolished years ago, and beautiful grounds located at the corner of Bridge and Starr Streets, has long been the subject of local lore passed down from generation to generation.

It is also a site on which many of today's adults had memorable experiences as children.

I want to hear from you!

I am currently collecting information regarding the mansion and grounds, former home to the Reeves family, founders of the Phoenix Iron Company.

If you visited the mansion and explored the many rooms or cellar, remember interesting stories or details, if you recovered any artifacts, have pictures or documents, or ventured into the tunnel(s), please contact me.

You may contact me at my home either by telephone, which is listed, or via email at

I and others are on an exciting journey into history.

Please join us and share your information because you, too, can become a part of the quest for the rest of the story of our past!

Karen - as I watch and listen to this circus - two quotes come to my mind: one by the late anthropologist Margaret Mead "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.", and the other, by the One that we are supposed to have foremost in our minds "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's; render unto God what is God's". Thank you for providing those of us who care less about the almighty dollar and more about doing the Right Thing a place to air our thoughts and share our wisdom. The political posturing that continues take place here is truly amazing on one hand, and saddening on the other.

don't forget the silver pieces

As for fireworks: Many companies are not giving people a day off for the holiday since it falls on a Saturday therefore, having on Friday is not a good idea this year.
