Wendy Kelly - Candidate for PAHS School Board Director

Place Phoenixville ahead of the pack in Chester County on education, community and expectations.

Quality Education - Provide a quality 21st Century education for all students, within the fiscal parameters of the district budget, and by enlisting the support of the community, service organizations, area universities, parents and school district personnel.

.A Need for Top-Notch Staff - Place Phoenixville Area School District among the top-rated districts in the state by recruiting and sustaining outstanding educational leaders who will improve instruction, develop quality programs, and propel the achievement of students. Currently, many vital positions are unfilled or occupied by interim personnel.

Honest Communication - Communication is the key to enlisting the support of the community and moving the district in the right direction. In order to make the best possible decisions for our community and it's children, all stakeholders need to know and understand the many facets of district business.

Accountability - Review and institute policies that hold district employees and school board members accountable for the achievement of students, expenditures of district funds and honest communication with the public.

Gee Wendy.....that is one lovely wish list. What voters need to know is just how you intend to do it, not a list of what we all wish for. How are you going to go about accomplishing your wish list.

And....just what are your qualifications for accomplishing this wish list????

From another section of Karen's blog:

"Questions for candidates:
1. Your personal opinion of the Library's expansion plans?
2. Development of the Phoenix Iron Co.'s land?
3. Trash hauling fees?
4. Enforcement of traffic, parking, pedestrian crossings, and other safety laws?"

In May, all school board candidates publicly stated their opposition to the library expansion plans except for Josh Gould.

For School Board Candidates -

1. Your opinion on the taking of the Meadowbrook Golf Course for additional school property?

2. Your opinion on the saving of the old Schuylkill School?

My Response: This is the potential the school district has to excel if, everyone maintain their roles, respect each other and work together towards a common goal. Most things within public education is a process but, as a board member you must have an overall district goal not a personal agenda.

With successful educational projects like the College/Career Fair, Career Day and Education Sunday, I've shown that things can be done to raise academic expectations without costing the taxpayer.

My Response:My qualifications for accomplishing what you consider a wish list is a proven ability of working with different people towards a district goal.

I'm the only school board candidate that has effectively brought a positive perspective to this school district. Any candidate will tell you what you want to hear for your vote but, I'm the ONLY candidate that has a record of success within the public education arena.

What is that success, and what positive perspective have you brought to the district?

One of the main concerns of the parents and taxpayers of the district was the lack of an academic achievement plan for a majority of the children. That children in the district were being discouraged instead of encouraged to excel within the area of academics. The first thing was to make the correct people aware of these issues from the community. Then with assistance from community organizations the programs/events stated above was implemented and they have been successful.
